About Georgia O'Keeffe -
Born in 1887, Georgia O'Keeffe is one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. Trained as an artist at both the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York, O'Keeffe became disillusioned with the imitative realism art traditions of the time period.
In 1912, O'Keeffe's interest in art was rekindled when she took a course that encouraged her to follow her artistic instincts. In 1916, O'Keeffe moved back to New York and became a charter member of the Stieglitz Circle, a cutting-edge group of artists that established the Avant Garde movement of modern art in America.
O'Keeffe became a prolific painter and sculptor, who focused on nature in her work, creating stunning masterpieces that depicted everything from flowers and rocks to bones, shells and abstract forms. Although O'Keeffe spent much of her time in New Mexico, she didn't make the state her permanent residence until 1949.
