Bandelier Dwellings. The most popular area for visiting in Bandelier National Monument is Frijoles Canyon, which was settled by the Spanish in the mid-18th century. The anthropologist, Adolph Bandelier, visited in 1880 and studied the ancient pueblo dwellings. Some were carved into the rock, others were formed naturally by caves. In the 1930s and 40s, the CCC worked to build a road, trails, the visitor center, and lodge. [Top]Activities in Bandelier.
